Clare Gardaí are reminding the public of the illegality of bonfires this Halloween.
Last year, fire crews were dispatched to four separate bonfires across 24 hours, including an incident in Cloughleigh where fire service personnel were attacked with stones while a fire appliance was vandalised.
Under waste management legislation and the Air Pollution Act 1987, burning household or garden waste is an offence and carries a fine of up to €3,000 or 12 months in prison.
Shannon-based Inspector Paul Slattery is encouraging parents to be aware of their children’s whereabouts in order to deter anti-social behaviour over the course of the day.
