Gardaí in the county town approached Clare Haven Services in recent months, and have since become some of the first in the country to undergo a training programme which helps them to deal with instances of domestic violence.

This week's Garda Inspectorate report criticised the responce of some Gardaí in this area, in finding that some members of the force referred to such calls as problematic, time-consuming and a waste of resources.

However, Denise Dunne of Clare Haven feels this could change if Gardaí nationwide follow the example set in Clare.
