In both incidents, thieves entered the house through the front door and car keys were taken, enabling the culprits to make their getaway in the car parked outside.

Separate investigations are also underway into a burglary in Tullyvarraga, Shannon and in the Moyglass area of Crusheen on the evening of Friday, January 30th.

Sergeant Edel Burke from Clare’s Crime Prevention Office has the following advice for people to help keep their home safe from intruders.

“Keep unexpected callers out. Do not open the door. Use a door chain and look for identification.

“Use services of people you know and trust.

“If you require assistance, please ring your local garda station or 999.

“Keep a look out for neighbours especially elderly and ring your local station if you see anything suspicious or unusual callers in the area.

“Note down any registration plates of cars that are unusual in your area,” Sergeant Burke concluded.
