Clare FM has earned an international award at the prestigious New York Radio Awards, taking home the Bronze Award in the Heroes category for its powerful documentary ‘Riptide’.
The documentary was written and produced by Clare FM’s Programme Director, Padraic Flaherty, and tells the gripping story of a dramatic rescue at Doughmore Beach in West Clare. The incident involved two young boys swept out to sea by a dangerous riptide.
In a remarkable act of bravery, Ian Bolger and Darren Byrnes jumped into the water without hesitation, risking their own lives to save the children. Their courage set in motion a large-scale emergency response involving the Kilkee and Doolin units of the Irish Coast Guard, Rescue 115, the National Ambulance Service, and local Gardaí.
Riptide stood out among entries from major global broadcasters, including the BBC and Al Jazeera, to secure the Bronze trophy.
The New York Radio Awards celebrate excellence and innovation in radio and audio production worldwide. Often dubbed the “World Cup of Radio,” the competition attracts top-tier entries from across the globe.
This marks the fourth New York Radio Award for Padraic Flaherty, who expressed his delight at the honour.
The awards took place last evening virtually from New York.
