Tony Mulcahy says he doesn't yet know if he will run having lost out on a spot on the party ticket at the Fine Gael selection convention in Septamber.
The Shannon-based Senator says a number of issues need to be looked at before a decision is made including gender balance within the party.
Senator Mulcahy believes its important to keep working on issues affecting the country until an election is called.
