Clare Farmers’ Rep Urges Supermarkets To Bear Brunt Of Milk Price Drops

The Clare county Chair of the ICMSA is urging supermarkets and co-ops to bear the brunt of price drops in milk.

Lidl, Tesco, Aldi and Supervalu have all dropped their prices by 10 cent this weekend, amid fears it could trigger a full-scale price-war.

Martin McMahon says passing on the cut in prices to dairy farmers will lead to significant financial hardship, as they’re already crippled with rising costs.

The O’Callaghan’s Mills farmer says it took two years for farmers to recover from the last price war in 2009 and he fears many farmers won’t be able to cope if it happens again.
