The report from Teagasc and the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland has revealed that at a time when prices across the rest of the country experienced a decline, Munster has fared well.

The average price per acre of land in the province now stands at €9,900 – a rise of 11 percent in 12 months.

Farms in the 50-100 acre category are performing particularly well, with a 17 percent increase in prices there.

It’s being put down to a 30 percent jump in milk prices last year.

However, many in Clare appear to be concerned.

Here, farmers are pointing to both the quality of land on offer in this county and the lack of supply as major challenges for those looking to expand.

That concern is also being expressed at the top of farming organisations too.

A fall-back in milk prices also means that incomes may not be as strong this year, according to Eddie Punch, the Cratloe-based General Secretary of the ICSA

He is warning farmers not to be complacent.
