Clare farmers call for action on falling milk prices

Clare farmers are appealing for action, and say that falling milk prices will take millions of euro out of the local economy.

Milk prices have dropped by around 10c a litre in the past year, a drop which represents a fall-off of over 25% in farmers' income.

The ICMSA says this represents a loss of nearly €25 million to the county's economy this year, and there are further fears that milk prices may fall even further.

The Association's chairman here in Clare Martin McMahon feels it's an issue which requires close attention.
