Clare Farm Rep Insists Common Sense Must Prevail Regarding Cutting Trees Near Power Lines

A Clare farming representative insists common sense must prevail when it comes to landowners being allowed to cut trees near power lines.

Thousands of homes and businesses remain without electricity this morning as ESB crews continue their efforts to restore power to those still experiencing outages following Storm Éowyn.

Emergency crews from the Netherlands, France, Austria and Finland are due to arrive from today to help the ESB restore electricity supply to homes and businesses across the country.

A major cause of electricity outages in rural Clare has been trees falling on overhead power lines.

O’Callaghan’s Mills farmer and Secretary of the Clare branch of the Irish Creamery and Milk Suppliers Association Martin McMahon says too many trees are located near power lines and farmers should be allowed to cut them down.
