Clare Families Urged To Exercise Caution As Leaving Cert Students Prepare for Exams

The Director of Public Health in the Midwest is urging families to exercise caution, amid concerns of a possible rise in Covid-19 cases among young people, as society re-opens further.

But Dr Mai Mannix remains optimistic that Covid levels will remain low this summer, on account of the success of the rollout of the vaccine so far and declining numbers of hospital admissions.

It comes as the Department of Public Health in the Midwest is urging people to avoid unnecessary social mixing to protect Leaving Cert students, as they prepare for exams in the coming weeks.

There have been 27 outbreaks in schools and early educations settings in the Midwest, involving 197 Covid-19 cases since March and Dr Mannix says a number of those developed because of social mixing outside the school environment.
