Clare Ex-Trócaire Director Says ‘Continued And Intense’ Focus On Afghanistan Needed

A Clare man who’s a former charity director says a ‘continued and intense’ focus on issues in Afghanistan is still needed from Ireland and world leaders.

It’s after the UN said it’s opposed to cutting aid to Afghanistan, despite the Taliban’s policies towards women and girls, including a ban on women in education and NGO work.

Women and girls have also been banned from most public places and most areas of the workforce, in addition to having their movements restricted.

Eamonn Meehan, who’s a former director of Trócaire and a native of Kilmaley, believes while public awareness of issues in Afghanistan may have waned, it cannot be allowed to happen on the international stage.
