The worst-affected areas include Cork City and Fermoy in Co Cork, Clonmel and Cashel in County Tipperary – and parts of County Wexford. Waterford, Wexford and Tipperary were also hit with flooding as well as Cork – where parts of the city were left under two feet of water.

In Clare, Gardaí report no problems this morning, but waters levels along the River Fergus and Lower River Shannon are under continued surveillance amid fears of further flooding this week.

Clare County Council has reiterated its appeal to land, home and business owners in flood prone locations to remain vigilant during the coming days with further heavy rainfall expected to cause localised flooding.

Local Emergency Services are also progressing contingency arrangements in terms of additional pumping capacity and other measures at flood-prone locations while Iarnrod Éireann is continuing to operate bus transfers between Limerick and Ennis, due to flooding on the rail-line.

In Kildsyart, farmers are still surveying the flood damage caused to local land, and along with the Irish Farmers Association will meet government representatives this evening.
