Clare Electric Vehicle Sales Hit Lowest Point In Two Years

Electric car sales in Clare have hit their lowest point in over two years.

New figures for October show that for the ninth successive month, electric vehicle registrations here are below 2023 levels.

Just five vehicles with an electric engine were sold in Clare last month, according to data from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry.

This is the lowest monthly electric vehicle sales figure for the county since June of 2022 and the lowest figure for October since 2020 when just four electric units were sold across the month.

It also marks the ninth month in a row in which electric vehicle sales have been below 2023 levels here.

In 2024 to date, 418 electric vehicle registrations have been recorded in Clare which is more than 44% below the figure of 232 for the same period last year.

By contrast, diesel, petrol, petrol electric hybrid, petrol plug-in electric hybrid and diesel plug-in electric hybrid engines are all seeing clear sales growth, with diesel electric hybrids experiencing a fall in sales of almost 49%.

As of the end of October, there have been 2,463 new car registrations in Clare this year which is up 3% on the same period in 2023.
