Clare Economist Not Ruling Out Further Chaos For Pharma Despite Trump U-Turn

A Clare economist predicts more chaos could be looming for the pharma sector, despite Donald Trump’s U-turn on tariffs.

The EU has now paused retaliatory tariffs on US goods for 90 days, in response to the US President’s decision to postpone duties from most countries around the world for the same period.

The Pharma sector was a big part of discussions between Trade Minister Simon Harris and US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick in Washington yesterday, but President Trump still hasn’t ruled out further tariffs.

Ennis native economist and Assistant Professor of Social Policy at UCD, Micheál Collins says the sector will likely move to be involved in discussions over the next 90 days, though he’s not convinced logic will prevail.
