A Clare driving instructor insists new testers should be deployed to the areas with the greatest need as driving test waiting lists continue to grow.

The latest figures reveal the average wait time for a driving test in this county is 25 weeks which is above the national average of 22 weeks.

The Government announced in April that 75 new testers have been recruited by the Road Safety Authority to address the widespread backlog, which brings the total number of testers to 200.

Chris Curran of the Chris Curran School of Motoring in Ennis says as new testers are brought onstream, the areas with the longest waiting lists must be prioritised.
