Clare Dog Warden Urges Pet Owners To Keep Chocolate Away From Dogs This Easter

Clare’s County Dog Warden is urging dog owners to keep their pets away from chocolate this Easter.

Chocolate contains theobromine, which is a chemical that dogs struggle to metabolise and could lead to serious health complications.

A recent survey by Dogs Trust found half of dog-owners say their pet has eaten chocolate in the past, but that only a third are aware they should contact their vet as chocolate is poisonous to dogs.

Clare County Dog Warden Frankie Coote says dogs can get seriously ill if they get access to treats not meant for pets.

If your dog has eaten chocolate, you need to be aware of symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhoea, excessive thirst, excitability, drooling, seizures and fatal heart issues.
