The Clare dog pound took in 475 dogs last year.
The shelter’s figures were 100 higher than the year before, with 226 dogs surrendered by their owners and 246 picked up as strays.

24 dogs were put to sleep from the shelter due to either health issues or for safety purposes if there was a history of biting or attacks.
Clare’s County Dog Warden Frankie Coote says huge work was done this year to rehome as many dogs as possible.
