A Clare disability activist is hopeful that new legislation can be the catalyst for employers to change policies surrounding the employment of people with disabilities.
This week the government announced the Optional Protocol to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities will come into effect at the end of the month, having been acceded on October 8th.
This legislation will allow people with disabilities to report alleged breaches of rights under the Convention directly to the United Nations.
Disability activist and Clare Leader Forum member Dermot Hayes says its equally important that people living with disabilities recognise the independence that can be achieved by gaining employment.
