Clare Direct Provision Resident Says Undocumented Scheme A ‘Light In The Dark’

A Direct Provision resident living in Clare says a new scheme to regularise undocumented people in Ireland is a ‘light in the dark’.

The initiative, which will come into force next year proposes to regularise the immigration statuses of individuals with dependent children after 3 years of being undocumented in the State and others after 4 years.

The Undocumented Regularisation Scheme will also be open to those who have been in the international protection process for 2 years or more.

Aung Marma, originally from Bangladesh and now residing in Clare Lodge Direct Provision Centre in Ennis, says it’s a hugely positive step.
