Clare Developer Looking To Take On Ennistymon Convent Redevelopment

A Clare developer has launched a bid to help plans for a major redevelopment of a convent in North Clare come to fruition.

Alan Cummins Limited is looking to extend the planning permission previously granted for a residential development on the site of the Convent in Ennistymon which lapsed at the beginning of this year.

The long-derelict building is located on a 2.96 acre site on the Lahinch Road in Ennistymon.

Clare County Council signed off on Banna Developments’ plans for a refurbishment of the original convent building and construction of resident accommodation on the 20th of December 2019.

The application proposed to build an extension to the building to include 12 two-bedroom apartments with a doctors room, day room and laundry facilities.

The construction of a new three-storey building to the rear of the convent building which would comprise 18 two-bedroom apartments and the demolition of an outbuilding were also included in the plans.

At this time, the site was zoned community-only but has since been rezoned to mixed-use residential with a small portion remaining community under the Clare County Development Plan 2023-2029.

Clare County Council’s Planning Office is due to make a decision on Alan Cummins Limited’s request to extend the planning permission on or before the 5th of June.
