Clare Developer Claims Government Have Been ‘Asleep At The Wheel’ Over Lack Of Housing Infrastructure

A Clare developer claims the government have been ‘asleep at the wheel’ in regard to tackling issues contributing to the housing crisis.

It follows the findings of a recent briefing paper which states ‘it is not physically possible to construct 50,000 houses per year’, due to a current deficiency in necessary infrastructure and zoned land serviced for new houses.

Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael have each promised to construct 300,000 homes by 2030, however wastewater infrastructure cannot sustain increases in housing development, with €15bn needed to raise infrastructure to current development levels.

Ciarán Breen, of Ciarán Breen Construction, says these promises cannot be delivered on, without first laying the foundations.
