3,331 different crimes were recorded in Clare in 2019, an average of nine per day.

But this is still a 5.7% year-on-year drop, and the lowest number on record, with statistics available dating back to 2003.

Burglaries and public order offences were both down 22% on the year before, while thefts were down almost 15%.

But despite the positive trends generally, there are some annual increases, especially at a local level.

In the category of crime which includes assaults, offences in Ennis were up by a third to over 200, but burglaries in the county town almost halved to 73.

There was a drop in thefts in the county town too, as well as in Killaloe, Newmarket on Fergus, Kilrush, Corofin and Miltown Malbay, but they were up in Shannon and Kilkee.

Fraud cases increased, especially in Ennis.

The number of drugs offences jumped in Shannon, Ennistymon and Kilrush, and the number of offences of damage to property increased in Ennis and Shannon.
