Clare County Fire Service is urging people to check in on vulnerable neighbours to help ensure their homes are safe from fire.
It’s National Fire Safey Week and this year’s theme ‘Together Against Fire’ aims to support and protect the community through simple actions and shared knowledge among neighbours, friends and family.
Last year there were 25 fire related fatalities nationally and the National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management is reminding people the rate of serious house fires is much higher for older people living alone, with the average age of a fire fatality being 69.
Assistant Chief Fire Officer with Clare County Fire Service, Michael O’Brien says coming together as a community can help save lives.
