There was a 33% drop in the number of chimney fires in the county last year compared to the previous year, while the number of house fires decreased by 43%, the third year in a row that the overall figure has dropped.
The 15th all-island Fire Saferty week is currently underway and the importance of having a working smoke alarm is being highlighted as the key message in this year's campaign.
Clare's Chief Fire Officer, Adrian Kelly believes it could mean the difference between life and death.
