Clare’s County Dog Warden is calling for an urgent change in legislation to better protect children from dog attacks.

It comes amid reports that local authorities across the country have been notified of hundreds of attacks over the past five years by dogs on other animals and on people.

Under the Control Of Dogs Act, more action can be taken to put down a dog if it attacks livestock, than a child.

Dog Warden Frankie Coote says this needs to be revised.
