It was standing room only in Shannon this afternoon for the funeral service of Sinn Féin Councillor Mike McKee.

The 61-year-old Belfast native has been remembered as a dedicated local representative, an entertainer, a sports fan but above all, a devoted father, husband, son and grandfather.

His entertainer colleagues at his business, HT Promotions, formed a fitting guard of honour as the tricolour-draped coffin entered the church, with balloon swords held high in a tribute to him.

Speaking during the service, his daughter Jeanette remembered him as the love of her life.

Mike’s grandsons Óran and Rían brought up gifts representing his life – a pirate flag and a sword – while Sinn Féin’s An Poblacht was also offered as a reminder of his lifelong public service.

His Clare County Council colleagues today also all wore black armbands in a tribute to him.

Following the funeral mass, Mike’s remains were taken to Shannon Crematorium for a cremation service.

Mike leaves behind his wife Eileen, son David and daughter Jeanette, along with his mother Theresa, grandsons and extended family.

May he Rest in Peace.
