Shannon Councillor Insists Area Needs Investment Amid Heated Exchanges On Heritage Sites

A Shannon Councillor insists urgent clarity about the Council’s capacity to invest in the area is needed amid ongoing uncertainty around the county’s heritage sites.

It’s after the matter prompted heated exchanges at last evening’s meeting of Clare County Council, with elected members divided on whether a debate on the matter of a potential loan by the local authority to facilitate the deal was required.

Council CEO Pat Dowling insisted that the Government providing the capital to facilitate the transfer is still a live possibility, while emphasising the security of employment of staff at the sites is “not at stake”.
