Plans For Rejuvenation Of Main Street Ennistymon Unveiled

Clare County Council has unveiled plans to rejuvenate Main Street, Ennistymon.

It has begun the planning process for the works, which will includes expanded pedestrian areas and a pedestrian crossing.

Clare County Council has lodged part eight planning permission for the rejuvenation and enhancement of the streetscape in Ennistymon.

The proposed works include an expansion of pedestrian areas to include street furniture, new public lighting on decorative columns and a new pedestrian crossing.

The local authority says Appropriate Assessment Screening has been carried out on the project, in accordance with the Habitats Directive.

While an Environmental Impact Assessment has concluded that there is no real likelihood of significant effects on the environment arising from the proposed development.

But these works are located within the Ennistymon Architectural Conservation Area, where there are a number of protected structure and recorded monuments, and the council says the character of the ACA would be materially affected by the works

The planning application has been lodged in recent days and is open for public submission up until the 7th of August.

As this application has been made by the council itself, a decision on whether the workls can proceed will be made by Councillors later this year.
