Hope That Clare County Council Will Not End Up With €8.5 Million Payout Bill

Hope has been expressed that Clare County Council will have to pay out much less than the estimated value of €8.5 million in active insurance claims against it.

Figures released by the local authority show that some 174 cases are currently classed as active, with that as a combined total figure, meaning each case on average is worth just shy of €50,000.

However, the data also reveals that 70 cases have been settled with the council so far this year with a total value of €913,000 – or €13,000 on average.

This has led to hope from Ennistymon Fianna Fáil Councillor Shane Talty, who requested the figures from the council, that the active cases will result in lower payouts.

Cllr Talty says it’s vital to reduce the amount paid out generally, to protect the county council’s finances:
