Fresh Calls For Change In Council Funding Allowance To Ennis Councillors

Fresh calls are being made for changes in how a key funding mechanism for local services is shared by different parts of the county.

The GMA or General Municipal Allowance is a discretionary fund for elected representatives, who can put it towards projects in their areas, and each councillor in Clare is allocated €45,000 in public money.

However, the concern in Ennis is that certain projects and sponsorships that should come out of the county-wide rates, as is the case in the other districts, are being funded through the GMA.
