Clare Councillors say homeowners here, whose properties are impacted by pyrite or mica, must be eligible for government support.

The local authority has formally called for Clare to be added to the Defective Concrete Blocks Scheme.

The €20 million euro scheme is currently only open to homeowners in Donegal and Mayo, and can be worth up to €225,000 to those whose homes are worst-affected.

Local representatives have now called for this county to also be made eligible, and it’s understood that at least 33 homes here are impacted by the issue.

This means the potential bills here could run into the millions of euro, but Cratloe Fianna Fáil representative Pat O’Gorman says those affected deserve fairness.
