Councillors To Consider 3.8% Commerical Rates Hike In Budget 2022

Clare Councillors meet today to discuss the local authority’s Budget for 2022.

A pre-prepared draft budget, which has been drawn up after a series of meetings, some involving Councillors, will be presented to them at a meeting in the Council Chamber at 2pm this afternoon.

One of the measures down for decision is a proposed 3.8% increase in commercial rates, which would be the first such hike
since 2009.

It’s one possibility being considered to try and bridge the gap in the Council’s finances caused by the pandemic and the delisting of commercial rates of properties such as the Roche Plant.

The draft budget will be debated today, before a final decision next Tuesday.
