Council Drafts In Additional Staff In Response To Numbers Attending Beaches

Clare County Council says it will post additional staff to the county’s most popular beaches this weekend to deal with an increase in visitor numbers.

Recent weekends have seen concerns from locals in areas including Lahinch, Kilkee and Doolin after large crowds descended on those areas, bringing about issues including littering, vandalism and a lack of social distancing in some areas.

Clare County Council says it’s monitoring the situation in the county’s coastal hotspots, along with GardaĆ and the Civil Defence.

On account of the increased pressure, the local authority says it’s now drafting in additional staff, and several other measures have also been taken to ensure the safety of those visiting these areas.

Beach Ambassadors are in place in Kilkee, Lahinch and Doolin Pier to ensure compliance with bye laws, including social distancing, especially around toilet facilities and other heavily trafficked paths.

Outdoor staff will carry out increased cleaning duties, Harbour Masters are in place in Doolin, and Traffic and Environmental Community Wardens are policing illegal parking, casual trading, waste issues and working with GardaĆ, when required.

The Council goes on to say that public toilets are being cleaned more regularly, additional toilets are opening in Kilkee, and additional bins will also be provided at the busiest locations.

It’s urging people to follow the HSE public health guidelines, and to enjoy their visits to Clare.
