Clare Government Senator Wants Quick Agreement On Miltown Malbay Flood Relief Works

A Clare Government Senator is calling on all stakeholders involved with the Miltown Malbay Flood Relief Scheme to ensure the project continues to progress as intended.

Clare County Council says negotiations are continuing with a key landowner for the works, and that ‘alternative options’ may need to be explored if these don’t prove to be successful.

Nearly half a million euro was granted to the local authority to begin the project towards the end of last year.

Fine Gael Senator Martin Conway says it’s important an agreement is reached quickly.

Statement from Clare County Council

‘We are hopeful of reaching an agreement with the affected landowner for this much awaited project in Miltown Malbay. However, if agreement can’t be reached, the Council has certain powers under the Roads Act to enter and carry out necessary drainage and flood protection works subject to certain conditions. That approach would be our least preferred option and hopefully, it won’t come to that. All going well, we look forward to commencing the works by agreement at the earliest juncture for the benefit of the land and property owners affected and the wider Miltown Malbay community generally.’
