Clare County Council says it has ‘significant challenges ahead’ to accommodate a growing number of Ukrainian refugees here.
Councillors were told at last evening’s monthly meeting that nearly 2,000 people from the war-torn state are now in this county across sixteen different venues.
Local authority CEO Pat Dowling has told representatives while the Council now has a mandate from central Government to identify further accommodation options here, it faces being ‘seriously challenged’ on availability in the coming weeks and months.
Ennis-based Fine Gael Councillor Mary Howard, who led calls for further suitable locations to be scoped out in this county at yesterday’s meeting, says a specific building to provide services to Ukrainians here is needed.
