Clare Councillors Hear Calls To Consider Significantly Reducing County’s Property Tax

Clare’s Councillors have heard calls to consider significantly reducing the amount of property tax homeowners in this county pay.

The increased rate, which Councillors have the power to set at 15 percent higher, 15 percent lower or the same base rate as set by the Government, is said to be worth around €1.5 million to the local authority’s coffers.

Elected representatives voted in favour of those who own a home here paying 15 percent above the standard rate for this year last July, and will vote on 2023’s rate in the autumn.

Shannon Independent Councillor Gerry Flynn, who’s proposing to reduce the current rate, insists doing so would not have an impact on Council services.
