Clare Becomes 14th Council To Call For Parental Alienation Laws

Clare County Council has become the 14th local authority in the country to pass a motion calling on the government to deem parental alienation a form of child abuse.

The phenomenon describes a process through which a child becomes estranged from a parent as the result of the psychological manipulation of another parent.

Clare County Council is now to request that the Departments of Health, Justice and Children and Youth Affairs formally recognise this is a form of child abuse and make it a criminal offence punishable by law.
