Claim That Efficiency Of Services Should Have Been Examined Before LPT Increase

It’s claimed there should have been no increase to the Local Property Tax in Clare until the efficiency of services in this county was examined.

Councillors last week approved a 15% increase in the tax – putting it at the maximum allowed by the state – which will take effect from January.

It was a divisive issue in the council chambers, with 16 of the 24 present voting in favour of the increase, while it also led to split opinions in the Fianna Fáil party.
