Clare County Council estimates that 2 hundred thousand euro worth of damage was caused during an arson attack at a traveller accommodation site on the outskirts of Ennis this past weekend.
One house was gutted and another damaged during the arson attack at the Ashline development on the Kilrush Road on Friday night.
In a statement to Clare FM, Clare County Council says this brings to nine the number of housing units in traveller group schemes in Ennis that have been destroyed in recent years.
The local authority says it’s now reviewing it’s options in relation to the vacant Ashline and Beechpark schemes, and says that while 18 homes have been constructed under the current traveller accommodation program since 2009, none will be built this year.
