Clare County Council says their planned purchase of houses in a new development in Ennis will provide much needed social housing in the time.
The Council has confirmed to Clare FM that it was approached by a developer to purchase the Tooreen Court development on the Tulla Road, although their deal needs government approval.
There are currently 1192 approved applicants on the Social Housing list who are looking for a home in Ennis.
Local Fine Gael Councillor Johnny Flynn says that many on the list could be in a position to purchase if affordable housing was made available.
Clare County Council issued the following statement to Clare FM:
‘Following an expression of interest trawl where Clare County Council sough land and/or developments in areas of housing demand a developer approached the Council to purchase the Toureen Court development. The conclusion of these negotiations are subject to approval from the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government. This development will provide much needed social housing in Ennis where there are currently 1192 approved social housing applicants with Ennis as their first area of preference.’
