Clare County Council is hoping to have boots on the ground at the construction site of the West Clare Railway Greenway by 2027.
The Railway ceased operations in 1961 after 74 years of service connecting Ennis, Kilrush, Kilkee, Miltown Malbay and Ennistymon.

The 85km stretch has received signifcant government funding to be repurposed as an active travel facility with the Local Authority hoping to establish the preffered route following a third public consultation process in October.
Senior Engineer with Clare County Council, Seán Lennihan is confident an application will be submitted to An Bórd Pleanála by 2024.
