Clare County Council built just 40 new social homes last year.
Figures published by the Department of Housing show just 302 social housing units were delivered in this county in 2024 – the tenth lowest in the country.

Of these, 40 were built directly by the local authority, which was the fifth-lowest figure nationwide.
Clonlara planning consultant and Independent Councillor Michael Begley says hold-ups in the planning system are largely to blame.
