Clare Councillors have voted to approve a ten million euro loan for the Ennis 2040 DAC.
The company has been registered with the remit of socially and economically developing the county town.
The purpose of the loan is to enable the development of various sites in Ennis town centre.
Councillors gave the green light to the move following fiery exchanges at this week’s monthly meeting, with a handful of representatives having expressed concerns that similar plans are not in place for other areas of the county.
Shannon-based Independent Councillor Gerry Flynn was one of five representatives who was not in favour of the move – and he believes the initial loan request is only the thin end of the wedge.
