Clare Councillors have unanimously backed calls for a reopening of 24/7 emergency services in Ennis, Nenagh and St John’s hospitals.
It follows chronic overcrowding conditions experienced at University Hospital Limerick since the turn of the year, which were described as “diabolical” and “third world” at last evening’s meeting of elected members.
Clare County Council is to now write to both the HSE and the Minister for Health to formally call for a reversal of 2009’s decision to close emergency care offerings at the region’s model 2 hospitals.
Ennis-based Fine Gael Councillor Mary Howard, who’s a member of the Regional Health Forum West, says members of the Oireachtas need to ‘forget about the party whip’ on the matter.
