Clare Councillors are looking for a seat on the board of Shannon Group.
Independent Shannon Councillor Gerry Flynn has said the appointment of an elected representative onto the board of the Group would address a "democratic deficit" and ensure that the public's views and wishes are taken into account.
At a recent meeting with Councillors, senior Shannon management spoke of wanting to work in partnership with Clare County Council on a number of issues which are of interest to both bodies, and the county as a whole.
Councillor Flynn believes his suggestion would make it easier for that to occur.
