Clare’s Town Councillors are calling on the government to hold an urgent referendum on the proposed abolition of Town Councils.

Calls to save the municipal authorities have been renewed this week, after last week’s referendum on the abolition of the Seanad saw the electorate opt to retain the Upper House.
Kilrush Town Council has now followed in the steps of Ennis Town Council in calling for such bodies to be reformed rather than scrapped.
Kilrush Fianna Fail Councillor Tom Prendeville says people should have their say, and wants the vote held in the towns affected before Christmas.
