Clare Councillors Back Plan Against Advice Of Interim CEO

Clare Councillors have backed the of re-zoning lands for development, against the advice of the Council's Interim CEO.

At a special meeting, local representatives voted in favour of permitting 'low density residential development' on sites at Blackwater, Ardnacrusha and in the village of Meelick.

This is despite a report from CEO Ger Dollard, who had advocated against such a move.

They were opposed by a number of Councillors including Fianna Fáil's Cathal Crowe, but voted through by other representatives, including members of his party.

The meeting heard there had been over 850 submissions in respect of the new County Development Plan, which is to come into force from next year.
