A Clare County Councillor says efforts to tackle illegal dunping in Clare will continue despite a proposal on the issue being rejected by the local authority.
Spanish Point Councillor Michael Hillary made a proposal at the council's monthly meeting last night which would see domestic rubbish being disposed of at local authority waste collection sites for free on a trial basis.
It was hoped that removing the costs of disposing rubbish would take away the incentive to dump, but Clare County Council says the proposal cannot go ahead under Irish and EU environmental policy which ensures the 'polluter pays'.
Councillor Hillary believes the cost of waste disposal is leading to the issue which is affecting the entire county.
