Clare councillor calls for scheme to see immigrants retun home to reduce unemployment levels here

A Clare Councillor has called for an incentive scheme to be introduced to encourage immigrants here to return home, in order to reduce unemployment.

Newmarket on Fergus Councillor Pat McMahon has told Clare FM that he feels the number of foreigners working in lreland ‘makes it more difficult’ to get young people onto the employment ladder.

While accepting that EU immigrants in particular are legally entitled to work here, Councillor McMahon has suggested a scheme whereby they are encouraged to return to their native countries.
