A Clare councillor is calling for medical card income thresholds to be reviewed ahead of the Budget.
It comes as new HSE figures show that fewer people were issued with medical cards in 2025, for the third year in a row.

The number of people in receipt of discretionary medical cards, which provide the same cover, but focuses on personal circumstances rather than income, has increased, however, to 191,059.
Ennis Fianna Fáil Councillor and HSE Regional Health Forum MidWest member Antoinette Baker Bashua says the income thresholds for medical cards need to be updated.
